Clifford Park turned into one big block party Thursday night as The Bahamas marked 53 years of Independence under the theme “Celebrating Our Heritage, Shaping Our Tomorrow.” Aquamarine, gold and black took over the skyline, literally, when fireworks lit up the park where it all started back in 1973.
The lineup brought serious range. Anatol Rodgers High School opened with a full band covering local favorites, then the energy shifted with performances from Essence Band, KB, DMAC and the CARPAS creatives. A 100 foot Independence flag got paraded through by young people repping Rangers Platoon, Carifta Swim and Track teams, and Marine Cadets. Live painting from Stefan Davis and Teran Davis added another layer, while 2026 rising star Cairo Palacious performed her award winning piece to the crowd.
The night closed out with a March Past, Guard Inspection and the Anthem before fireworks hit again at midnight. Then Downtown Nassau took over for The People’s Rush, where Junkanoo groups brought that raw, unfiltered energy that honestly says more about Bahamian identity than anything else that happened all night.
53 years in, and the culture still shows up loud.
