Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle

One of the taglines for this move: The Final Battle Ignites. The active members of an organization created to fight specific manifestations of demonic entities have been transported to a realm where the leader of the demonic entities controls and must now gather their resources in an effort to destroy that leader and free themselves from that entity’s domain.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns is a strong start to the final arc of the story with riveting action that promises a brutal climax where some of our heroes may pay the ultimate price for victory. The directing by Haruo Sotoza under the watchful eye of Chief Director Hikaru Kondo is able to keep the pace of the dynamic storytelling going at such a breakneck speed that you don’t want the thrill ride to end. The screenplay by Ufotable in general and Hikaru Kondo in particular based on the manga Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge captures the visceral intensity of the battles as well as the emotional gut-punch when the origins of certain enemies are eventually revealed. The voice cast is superb and each performer is able to bring the right amount of energy to the role that fits the fluctuating scenes the animators have skillfully brought to the big screen. This is the first in the trilogy of feature length films that may be separated into half hour episodes to make up the final season of the franchise the way the Mugen Train Arc was instead of being a collection of episodes put together to create compilation films that are feature length narratives the way some previous arcs in the series were distributed. Any Demon Slayer fans will rejoice at the beginning of this new arc after the cliffhanger ending of the previous one and the uninitiated can definitely be captivated by the engaging visuals of this polished presentation. I rate this cinematic entry a rating of 4 out of 5.
