Mortal Kombat II Is Exactly What It Needs To Be

Fatalities. Chaos. Karl Urban being absolutely unhinged. Mortal Kombat II has been in theaters for two weeks and if you still haven’t gone, this is your sign.

The sequel picks up in the Kingdom of Edenia, dropping viewers into the origin story of fan favorite Princess Kitana before fast forwarding to the main event. Karl Urban slides into the role of washed-up action star Johnny Cage and immediately becomes the most entertaining person on screen. His chaotic energy balanced against the composed Liu Kang, a returning Cole Young, and veterans Jax and Sonya Blade makes for a crew that’s genuinely fun to watch.

The fights are brutal, creative, and absolutely insane in the best way. The fatalities go hard. The visual effects occasionally stumble but mostly deliver. Scorpion and Sub Zero are back, and their sequences alone probably broke the graphics team.

Where it loses points is story depth. The script is clearly more interested in getting to the next fight than letting characters breathe. Some of those moments could’ve hit different with a little more room.

But here’s the bottom line: Mortal Kombat II knows what it is and commits fully. Fun cast, wild action, and enough blood to satisfy any fan.

Go see it. You won’t regret it.
