Tropic Air Rescue Brings Peace of Mind to The Bahamas

Living in The Bahamas is the dream turquoise water, laid-back rhythms, and a lifestyle built around wellness and escape. But beyond the beauty, island life comes with a reality many don’t think about until it’s urgent: what happens when a medical emergency strikes miles from advanced care?

That question is exactly what led Anthony Marinello to launch Tropic Air Rescue, the first dedicated helicopter air ambulance service in The Bahamas. The idea came after one of his pilots encountered a passenger showing signs of a stroke and no rapid-response air evacuation was available.

“I called company after company, and nobody could respond,” Marinello says. “That’s when I realized there was a real need.”

With more than 40 years of experience as a former New Jersey State Trooper, rescue pilot, EMT, and aviation executive, Marinello spent nearly two years building the operation from the ground up. Since launching in 2024, Tropic Air Rescue has already completed over 100 missions across the islands.

While some rescues have made headlines, most are the kinds of emergencies that can happen to anyone, anywhere—boating accidents, strokes, traumatic injuries—where minutes matter and access can’t wait.

Working alongside Bahamian medical providers and major South Florida trauma centers, the service offers a membership model designed for modern island life. Whether you’re a weekend visitor, a boat owner, a remote worker, or splitting time between homes, it’s built for those who want to enjoy the islands without uncertainty.

“The biggest challenge is that people don’t know we exist until they need us,” Marinello says.

As more people choose The Bahamas for second homes, remote work, or long-term living, having a plan for emergency care is becoming part of the lifestyle conversation—not just a backup plan.

“If you’re a member,” Marinello says, “we’re coming to get you.”

And in a place where freedom and distance define the experience, that kind of peace of mind is everything.
