A Forest Full of Adventure: BNT’s National Parks Day

If you thought the only thing blooming in the Primeval Forest were trees, dear reader, think again!

National Parks Day at the Primeval Forest National Park proved that nature has a way of bringing people together, and doing so with style. Tucked away in the heart of Nassau, the beloved park transformed into a lively haven of wellness, creativity, and adventure, where every Bahamian traded in the usual city rush for birdsong, fresh air, and a day well spent beneath the canopy.

The morning began peacefully with a yoga session that strengthened our stretching, breathing, and allowed us to pretend—if only for an hour—that we had no worries in the world. Surrounded by trees and the calming sounds of nature, one could hardly imagine a better place to find balance. If serenity had an address, it surely would have been listed there in the forest.

For those craving a little excitement, the snake handling workshop slithered in as one of the day’s most talked-about attractions. Equal parts fascinating and fearless, we had the chance to learn about those radical reptiles while seeing them up close in a safe and educational setting. I, for one, kept a safe distance in between me and anything with a forked tongue and intereSSSt in rodents.

As the day carried on, creativity took center stage with a pottery class that had everyone rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands delightfully dirty. There is something soooo satisfying about molding clay into a work of art, or in my case, something close to it- especially while surrounded by the raw beauty of nature itself. Whether you were a first timer or an expert at the craft, there was definitely a spot reserved for you! And because no event is complete without a touch of indulgence, we were also treated to wine sampling that added a refined finish to an already memorable afternoon. Sipping and socializing beneath the trees? One could hardly call that anything less than a day well spent!

To the organizers of National Parks Day, my hat goes off to you. You reminded us that our national parks are far more than scenic spaces—they are places to connect, to learn, to laugh, and to appreciate the treasures we have right here at home. For those who missed this year’s celebration, may you never do so again! Keep watch for the next event, because if this one taught us anything, it is that the best days often happen outdoors.
