Jonquel Jones has done something no player in WNBA history has done before. The Bahamian center was named MVP of the 2026 WNBA All Star Game on Saturday in Chicago, and with it she became the first player to hold All Star MVP, regular season MVP, Finals MVP and Commissioner’s Cup MVP at once. She is also the first international player to earn the All Star honor.
Coming off the bench for Team Spoon, she finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in a 129 to 122 win over Team Coop, falling just short of a triple double.
The night carried weight beyond the stat line. Jones’ aunt recently died, and the memorial service was Saturday. She nearly stayed home, then played with her family’s blessing and dedicated the award to her aunt.
“There were a lot of highs and a lot of great moments, and then there were also a lot of lows too,” Jones said.
For a player from Freeport now rewriting the league record book, it was a weekend that asked for everything and gave plenty back.
