If you’re in the Nassau, Bon Vivants Wednesday night music scene, I’m sure you’re familiar with Foreign Sound. I remember searching Spotify to find Bahamian alternative rock music and was shocked that we actually had a band that made alternative music. Finding “The End” actually made me start my own personal music blog. The song is pretty old, but the message still rings true, and it particularly touches me as I’ve moved to a new country and will now have to explore the Bahamian music scene and new music outputs from Kingston, Jamaica. But what better place to write about Caribbean music?

The songwriter says at the end, your words, they never burn out. And I’d like to think that over the past few months writing for Wybe, that my words haven’t burned out.

The End creates a smooth melody and calming vocals while telling you exactly how a heartbreak tends to go, and that your words have meaning. Pair that with a vesper at Bon Vivants and you have the perfect recipe for a Wednesday night. But I think what strikes me the most is once again the fact that Bahamian music is not a monolith. We have pop girlies, we have house music, our iconic rake n scrape and Junkanoo, and even alternative rock music. The genres are continuing to unfold. There is movement and a scene for everyone and even if you’re not currently home to take part in it, a lot of our artists are also in the greater Bahamian diaspora throughout the world.

You can find Foreign Sound’s music on most streaming platforms, and keep an eye out for their performances! They also do awesome covers of other alternative rock/ rock songs for those who don’t normally fit the music status quo that we’re accustomed to at home.

I’m looking forward to a Wednesday at home in December where i can sit in the basket chairs by the window at BV and listen to a Foreign Sound show.
