The sun was not playing. Neither were they.
By the time the Youth March and Rally started moving, the road was already a scene. Bucket hats pulled low. Shades on every face, from oversized black frames to one pair of white ones that deserved their own spotlight. Umbrellas everywhere, florals beside plain black, and one big red and black canopy floating over the crowd like it was leading the way.
And then there was the banner. Voice to Vision.
It’s the theme of National Youth Month 2026, and on Sunday it felt less like a slogan and more like a dress code. White tees. Matching energy. A Jack Hayward Wildcats shirt in the back, a Dragon Ball cap up front, and a whole lot of young people who clearly understood the assignment. There’s something about watching Grand Bahama’s youth take up space like that. Not in a classroom. Not behind a podium. In the street, in the heat, together.
The month has been building to this moment. Wybe opened the season with school tours back in September, and since then the island has made room for symposiums, an educators conference, a church service, and a mental health symposium that put youth wellness right where it belongs: at the center of the conversation.
Sunday October 11th was the day all of it became visible.
But the story isn’t finished. Speech competitions start today. The Grand Bahama Youth Awards arrive October 24. And the month signs off with a talent showcase, a basketball tournament and a spelling bee, sending October out the way it came in. Loud.
Impacted. Amplified. Empowered. Three words printed across every shirt on that road.
Grand Bahama’s youth wore them like they meant it.
