A*POP by Tyla

Tyla just dropped her sophomore album and everyone is talking about it. I will say though, that the album is receiving some mixed reviews. In her first release since 2024’s self titled “Tyla”, with hits like Water,  and Truth or Dare, Tyla has some big shoes to fill. That was the album that put Tyla on the map, earning widespread critical acclaim, and introduced the amapiano-pop sound to mainstream audiences. The reviews are polarizing, with known album reviewers such as NME calling the album safe, and Clash Magazine saying that the album continues to grow the impact Tyla has on the music scene. The new album has some nice tracks and features, with “She Did It Again” already chart topping and showing a collaboration with pop’s new princess, Zara Larsson.

The song that I like the most is “Is it Love?”, another amapiano banger that makes the waist move like water. Whether or not the album is received well, we can’t deny Tyla’s starpower in the “off season”, as her fashion has been a trending topic over the last two years as we awaited this album, proving she doesn’t need new music to stay culturally relevant.

Reviews aside, Tyla remains one of pop’s most magnetic rising forces.
