Birthday Energy All Year: How to Plan Your Best Birthday Yet

Photography by Alfred Anderson

New year, new energy, and yes sis, we’re already talking birthdays. If you’re planning to celebrate properly this year, let me put you on to one of my favorite grown-woman moves: the birthday photo shoot.

Here’s the tea, though. A birthday shoot isn’t just one day anymore. It’s two. You’ve got preparations day and then the actual birthday, which honestly feels like celebrating twice. And I love that for us.

If a birthday shoot is on your vision board this year, start planning six to eight weeks in advance. That gives you enough time to book your hair, makeup, outfit, and photographer without stress. More importantly, it ensures you actually have your photos back in time to post on your birthday. Nothing hurts more than a fire shoot sitting in someone’s camera roll while your birthday passes by.

On shoot day, get fully dressed up, take those photos, and don’t waste a good face. Head out to lunch, book a pedicure, grab a drink, or do something small just for you. Consider it a pre-birthday celebration.

Because if we’re doing birthdays this year, we’re doing them with intention, confidence, and a little extra Wybe.
Here are a few of my favorite photographers to consider for your shoot this year:
