While casually scrolling TikTok (also known as my unofficial research center), a behavioral therapy clip stopped me mid-scroll.
It said: “How you think creates how you feel. How you feel becomes an emotion. That emotion becomes a vibration. And that vibration becomes a magnet, attracting things to you and repelling things away. Only think about what you want. Forget what you don’t want. Don’t look out the window, look in a mirror.”
Phew.
Sometimes we underestimate how powerful our internal dialogue is. We focus on circumstances, other people, the economy, the stress, and rightfully so. Don’t get me wrong. But sometimes we also need to pause and examine the words we repeat to ourselves each day.
“I’m so tired.”
“I can’t.”
“This is too hard.”
Those thoughts don’t just sit quietly in our minds. They shape our mood, our energy, our decisions, even our motivation to get things done. Over time, they influence what we expect, and even worse, what we’re willing to tolerate. This isn’t about toxic positivity or pretending life is perfect. It’s about awareness. If our thoughts create our emotional climate, then we have more influence than we think. This week, let’s challenge ourselves to refine our self-talk. Let’s pay attention to the way we speak, especially to ourselves.
That video reminded me to pause and reflect. And sometimes, we all just need that little reminder.
Because the power of the tongue?
It’s real.
