Last week after Nintendo wrapped up their June Direct, gamers all over the world were sent into shock. What feels like for the first time in a long time; ALL of the major gaming studios across the industry all decided to lock in and drop trailers/deep looks into some of the most anticipated games of the decade. Sony with their State Of Play, Xbox with their showcase, Summer Games Fest sharing the spotlight with everyone else and finally Nintendo with their direct; the “Spirit Of E3” was strong this June. It felt nostalgic seeing all my favorite studios going head to head, announcement for announcement. Here are the biggest reveals/announcements:
MARVEL’S WOLVERINE
RELEASE DATE: September 15th 2026
Insomniac Games kicked off the madness with a 20 minute gameplay showcase during Sony’s state of play. Showcasing brutal combat, fluid animations and fast paced movement. With the success of the highly acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man, many comic book and gaming fans alike are highly anticipating getting their hands on Marvel’s Wolverine. Pre-orders live.
GOD OF WAR: LAUFEY
RELEASE DATE: 2027
Santa Monica Studios gave us all a surprise reveal of the next installment in the “GOD OF WAR” series. LAUFEY: A spin-off title dedicated to the wife of Kratos, Faye. They gave us a glimpse of what looks to be the first 20 minutes of the game showcasing the brilliant combat God Of War is known for, but also showing off new features and insane boss fights that have both me and many fans dying to get our hands on this. PERSONA 6
RELEASE DATE: 2027
The critically acclaimed JRPG series “Persona” got a surprise reveal during the XBox Games Showcase. Although it only showed a brief cinematic and a logo reveal, fans from across the world all rejoiced in a frenzy – myself included. I cannot wait for ATLUS Studios to show us more information.
VIRTUA FIGHTER: CROSSROADS
RELEASE DATE: 2027
The long awaited return of the fighting game series Virtua Fighter has finally been announced. One of SEGA’s biggest IPs plans to make its current-gen debut and return showing off brief gameplay and a beautifully crafted – but charming – cinematic. Virtua Fighter is beloved by fans worldwide thanks to its deep combat mechanics and high skill ceiling. Cannot wait to hear more.
THE WOLF AMONG US 2
RELEASE DATE: 2027
The surprise return of Telltale Games’ Wolf Among Us shocked everyone. The game that was believed to have been in development hell for over a decade is finally seeing the light of day. Although brief – fans were elated to finally see the sequel to a game that has been loved since 2013. I’m extremely excited to see what Telltale has in store for us after having us wait for over 13 years.
FINAL FANTASY VII: REVELATION
RELEASE DATE: SPRING 2027
Square Enix returns to spoil us yet again with the official reveal of the next – and final – installment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. FF7: Revelations plans to take us to the climax of the highly acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 that has been the face of the franchise and Square Enix as a whole for the last 30 years. Beautifully recreating from the ground up – the game that many fans claim is the face of the RPG Genre as a whole, the world is dying to get their hands on Revelations. With its predecessors Remake and Rebirth being highly beloved 10/10 games, we can expect Square Enix to stick the landing and go 3/3. More details soon.
KINGDOM HEARTS IV
RELEASE DATE: TBA
The ONLY reveal that made people call me at work and tell me to check the news. After FOUR YEARS of radio silence after its initial reveal, we finally get a look at the long awaited Kingdom Hearts 4. Gameplay showing off the new engine shows the quick fluid combat the Kingdom Hearts series is known for, while also showing confusing story beats which Kingdom Hearts is also known for. It took everyone by surprise for this to be shown at a Nintendo Direct of all places, but we’re glad nonetheless. With Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy 7 both being revealed in the same week RPG fans are rejoicing worldwide. We hope to get more details as soon as possible.
The last time I watched all my favorite Studios and Publishers go head to head like this was back in 2018. The most anticipated games that were once memes are all being revealed one by one with more insider info and release date windows. People called me crazy but 2026 and beyond might be the best years of gaming the industry has ever seen. And with every announcement and reveal, we still feel the looming presence of the behemoth coming at the end of the year; causing everyone to dodge that November release window; GTA 6. Everyone is trying to compete and out do each other and I’m loving it. Let the Battle Royale for gaming commence.
