They’re Next: Inside the minds of the next generation of Bahamians

There’s something different about this generation and you can feel it the moment you talk to them. They’re still in uniform, still raising hands in classrooms, still counting down to graduation. But mentally? They’re already somewhere else. Thinking ahead. Planning. Questioning everything.

“I ain’ just trying get no regular job, yk. I want somethin’ that feel like mine for real.”

That mindset shows up everywhere. In the way they talk about careers, not just doctor, lawyer, or teacher but content creator, entrepreneur, designer, creative director. The options feel wider now. And so does the pressure. Because for every dream, there’s expectation sitting right next to it.

Some feel it at home. Others feel it online, watching people their age already building brands, gaining followers, going viral. Success doesn’t feel far away anymore. It feels… immediate.

“You can’t really move slow no more. Like, if you ain’ doing nothin’ now, you behind already.”

And yet, in the middle of all that urgency, they’re still figuring themselves out. Who they are. What they like. What matters to them beyond what looks good on social media. There’s confidence but also uncertainty. Ambition but also doubt.

It’s a balancing act no one really prepares you for. But maybe that’s what makes this generation different. They’re not waiting for everything to make sense before they start. They’re building in real time. Learning publicly. Taking risks earlier. Owning their identity as they go.

“I ain’ have everything figured out, but I gon’ get there.”

And that’s the energy.

Not perfect. Not finished. But moving.

Because while the world still sees them as students, they see themselves as something more.

And whether anyone’s ready or not……they’re next.
