Bahamian rapper dems reaches far into the future with to become one, a narrative driven project set in the year 2225. Across 12 tracks, he crafts a story that feels both intimate and cosmic, pulling from the introspective tones of Kid Cudi, the narrative weight of Kendrick Lamar, and the experimental edge of MF Doom.

At just over 30 minutes, the project is concise yet immersive. Skits and interludes build a cinematic flow, while tracks like “alpha centauri” and “his golden record” showcase dems’s ability to stretch hip-hop into new atmospheres. Some moments feel fleeting, but the cohesion and ambition stand out, this is a project built as much on vision as it is on sound.

Listening feels like being launched into orbit on a ship powered by 808s and introspection, with dems steering between galaxies of story, emotion, and experimentation. ‘to become one’ proves that hip-hop can be futuristic without losing its humanity, and that dems is ready to chart his own course among the stars.
