Some moments are bigger than a placing. This was one of them. Bowflex Barbie is officially the first Bahamian woman to step onto the Olympia stage, the most prestigious event in bodybuilding. And she didn’t walk out nervous. She walked out like she owned the room.

“Honestly, I felt like I belonged there,” she told Wybe. “I wanted to be present for it instead of letting nerves take over.”

In the crowd? Family and friends waving Bahamian flags. That’s when it felt real.

“I was standing on the biggest stage in bodybuilding, and people who have been a huge part of my journey had travelled from home to be there with me.”

She didn’t even need to make a call afterward. Her whole circle was waiting backstage with what she called “the warmest and loudest celebration.”

Back home, the love has been nonstop. She admits she would have loved to place higher, but she’s proud of her first Olympia run and knows this moment reached far beyond a scoreboard.

Her mission goes beyond trophies. She wants to end the idea that muscle makes a woman less feminine.

“You can build muscle, push yourself hard, and still express your femininity however you choose.”

She’s watched fitness culture in The Bahamas grow, with more women lifting and taking their health seriously. But she believes local athletes need more support and clearer pathways to develop. “There’s talent here,” she said.

For the young Bahamian girl who wants to compete but hasn’t seen anyone like her yet, her advice is simple: start anyway.

“You don’t have to see the whole path before you take the first step. And I hope that when she sees me on that stage, she knows there’s room for her too.”

Now she does.
