Cat Island Just Got Way Easier to Reach

If Cat Island has been on your never

If Cat Island has been on your never been but always wanted to go list, now’s the time. Bahamasair just restored scheduled flights to Arthur’s Town after more than 20 years without service, with planes running twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays.

That’s huge for an island that’s basically been gatekept by logistics. Cat Island has never tried to be a resort destination. No casinos, no cruise crowds, just long stretches of white sand where your footprints might be the only ones around. The kind of place that rewards you for actually slowing down instead of rushing through a checklist.

Beyond the beaches, there’s real culture to explore too. Mount Alvernia, the highest point in The Bahamas, holds The Hermitage, the tiny stone monastery built by Father Jerome. Climb up and the view stretches across the whole island. Add in bonefishing, snorkeling and quiet fishing settlements, and you’ve got an island that feels untouched in the best way.

Stay wise, boutique spots like Rollezz Villas, Fernandez Bay Village and Shanna’s Cove keep things intimate, with beachfront views and hospitality that actually feels personal instead of resort generic.

For Bahamians who’ve never made the trip and visitors hunting for something off the beaten path, this flight restoration just made one of our most underrated islands a whole lot more reachable.
