Cut Different: Inside the rise of Pirated Official

Pirated Official Apparel is one of those brands you can’t help but admire not just for its modern, standout designs, but for the story behind it. Founded by Dwight Thompson, the brand is rooted in creativity, confidence, and craftsmanship. Coming from a barbering background, Dwight first made a name for himself by mastering detail and precision skills that naturally carried over into fashion. “Barbering taught me how to pay attention to the little things,” he explains. “It gave me a deep understanding of how clothes should fit and feel on the body. His transition into fashion started organically. “I began experimenting with customizing clothes for my clients, and the feedback was amazing,” Dwight recalls. “That’s when I knew I wanted to take my passion for fashion and turn it into a brand that could make people feel confident and unique.” From that, Pirated Official Apparel was born, a brand that celebrates individuality, self-expression, and the artistry of everyday style.

Starting Pirated Official Apparel was a journey filled with challenges. The fear of failure and uncertainty held him back for a while, but the realization that his passion had been sitting on the sidelines for too long finally pushed him to take that leap of faith. When asked about the response from his community, especially in light of the ongoing debate about whether Bahamians truly support Bahamians, Dwight’s face lit up. “The response has been incredible! Our community has been super supportive, and our customers love the unique vibe and quality of our clothes,” he shared. That response not only reinforces his work ethic but also reflects his ability to connect his past barbering clientele with his new community. What started behind a barber’s chair has evolved into a brand that represents as Dwight describes it, “Bold. Fresh. Unapologetic.”

In the coming years, Dwight envisions Pirated Apparel expanding its product line, collaborating with other creatives, and building a strong global community. His biggest challenge so far has been balancing the creative and business sides of the brand,a skill he’s learning through prioritizing, delegating, and staying organized. Closing with advice to the youth, Dwight shared, “Don’t be afraid to be yourself and take the road less traveled. Mistakes are part of the journey, learn from them, stay focused, and never give up on your passion.”
