Linknb by Kelela

If going to the beach at sunset had a soundtrack, I think it’d be Linknb by Kelela. If you’re not familiar with Kelela, she’s a genre bending artist that feels like a futuristic afro R&B. She’s a “mother” to this kind of music, having collaborated with some of your faves like Kaytranada or PinkPantheress. Linknb is the leadup single to her newest album, set to release on July 10th, called “new avatar”. Linknb’s vibes remind me of a Solange song, mixed with Blood Orange instrumentals, but with a spin that only Kelela can provide in a one minute song. I can see myself listening to this song driving down the Cable Beach strip, with the beat switching up as soon as I enter the Bon Vivants parking lot, welcoming the chaos of the night ahead. If you’ve never heard of Kelela before, I suggest tapping into her music. Some of my favorite songs are Rewind, Contact, All the Way Down and Closure. Allow yourself to expand your music taste and arrive among notes and beats with which you may not be familiar. I know Bahamians like to rate everything a 9/10, but Kelela’s music genuinely is that. In the thread of Luke Noraa, Bahamians and the music that we enjoy is not consumed in a vacuum, we can enjoy rock, house, alternative r&b, whatever you want. We aren’t a monolith, and neither is Kelela’s music. Check out “new avatar” and the rest of her discography!
