Outer Banks Is Over. Did the Pogues Get the Ending They Earned?

Hi Wybers, So we have come to the

Hi Wybers, So we have come to the end of Outer Banks aka OBX and with this final season we have to decide if this is not only the ending we the viewers deserve but also the ending the characters deserved. We have been on a journey around the globe with these young adults as they struggle to find their identity and along the way uncover hidden truths about their ancestors which brought to light patterns of injustice that they had the power to put right or let continue for generations to come. This should go without saying, but there will be spoilers ahead for the 10 episode final season of the hit Netflix series.

Okay to the elephant in the room for anyone in this region of the world will always be Cleo Anderson and her accent. It is said that success has many fathers while failure is an orphan and that saying is exemplified by the way no island will admit to her having their accent. I have come to the conclusion that this is a Buffy The Vampire Slayer series situation where Kendra the Vampire Slayer had an accent that was suppose to be of a dialect from a specific African country but just ended up sound Jamaican. Most Bahamians who watch Outer Banks already know that even though parts of the show were suppose to take place in Nassau they were really filmed in Barbados. But they really asked us to suspend our disbelief this season when certain shots had mountains in the background which brought back memories of shots in I Still Know what You Did Last Summer which used Mexico for the Bahamas.

There were other logic defying parts like Kiara Carrera’s multiple feats of gymnastic prowess and John B. Routledge getting involved with drug dealers which felt both over the top and small potatoes with the grand heights that we have already experienced in previous seasons. Pope Heyward dealing with his current situation in an unhealthy way felt realistic and Sarah  & Rafe Cameron’s issues with their estranged mother Ellie rang true especially with Sarah’s worries now that she was pregnant. The Blue Crown was an interesting McGuffin continuing from Season 4 and the way that arc end with Finch and his Lupine Corsairs was satisfying. Chandler Groff is a villain that got comeuppance in spectacular fashion at the hands of the person he had wronged the most after his killing of his biological son JJ Maybank. Themes of toxic parenting from fatherhood to motherhood are still on display here and the fact that Kooks and Pogues alike have things to work through if they want to coexist.  At the end of the day this show has always had the right vibes and they showcased that in a heartwarming way in the finale. I rate this season a rating of 3 & 1/2 out of 5: Engaging
